Kidney Prints

My exploration of the internal body has led me to focus on intricacies present in kidneys. Strongly influenced by my Grandad’s profession as a Master Butcher, there have been many conversations regarding the internal body as my research and interest in the subject develops. By slicing and printing kidneys onto fabric, I reveal the delicate structure of the organs. I highlight the formation by combining 3D printed porcelain, drawing focus to the interwoven complexities. I complement the subtlety of these prints by sewing a strong line along the edge of the fabric, drawing the eye to each component and reference how a kidney is attached to the body. As these objects are worn on the body, the wearer becomes aware of their own anatomy and the vulnerability of their internal being.

I developed this body of work whilst I was Artist in Residence for the Jewellery and Silversmithing department at University for the Creative Arts, Farnham.
